School Starts Monday

Wow!! December has been the last time I posted I can't believe it has been that long and school for us will start Monday. Our lives has been busy and a lot of changes have occurred and will continue to occur hopefully things will be figured out before the end of the year. For awhile I was debating of using a K12 program which is basically an online public school the more I thought about it the less sure I was. In the end we decided with our current situation it is best to go on it on our own. So as I think of things we can do with Liah with little to no money things are slowly working out. I wanted to do Math-U-See and was able to get it today at a decent price. YEAH!!! That was one thing I was worried about even though she is counting pass 100, adding and subtracting single digits, and is skip counting (2,5,10 and even tries it with 3 and 4) I was still nervous about her having a good foundation. I'm hoping that this program works with her all I need now is some manipulatives.
Another area of concern is her handwriting the poor girl had no chance with both her parents having bad handwriting. I'm hoping that maybe I can find a way to buy HWOT (Handwriting Without Tears). For now we will do the best that we can. Someone shared this site on Facebook and will use it quite a bit Handwriting Worksheets
This is basically what our plan is for this year of course as life happens this may change:
Spiritual:
Continue reading Book of Mormon reader
Memorize Articles of Faith (she has the first seven memorized)
Sing songs from Sharing Time
Math:
Math U See- Alpha
English:
Finish Charlotte's Web
Start Little House on the Prairie
Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Lessons
Practice Handwriting
Science:
My Body
Astronomy
Foreign Language:
Russian
ASL (American Sign Language)

Since for awhile I was planning on doing K12 my list isn't as specific as I would like to be. I will slowly work and improve on her lessons and since she is already above a Kindergarten level in most areas I'm not too worried about it at all. My husband and I both know that at this time this is the best thing for her and will continue to follow the plan the Lord has placed before us.

Christmas Fun

Well we've been busy reading Christmas books and doing Christmas crafts. I was able to get some of my ideas from various blogs. Now I'm not as planned as they are as they would read a book and do a craft that went with the book. Mine is a bit scattered brained but hoping to get more organized just glad Lia is 4 and all she cares is that she is read to and has something fun to do. Here is one of the places for my ideas they are are the same blogs but different years  2009 Christmas Book List
2010 Christmas Book List
She has so many wonderful ideas on so many things I use a lot of her ideas with Liahona.

Some of the books we have read so far are the following
The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey by Susan Wojciechowski
I loved this book and so did Liahona what a beautiful story and is now on my book wish list.

Christmas Oranges by Linda Bethers
Another book that is on my wish list this one was a little bit long for Liahona's taste and maybe I will break it up a little if I read it to her again. It was so cute to see Liahona's face show concern for the little girl when she saw that the girl was sad. Excellent illustrations.

The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg
If you haven't read this yet you should a wonderful book with beautiful illustrations.

Humphrey’s First Christmas by Carol Heyer
Very cute book I want to say more but it will give away the ending.

I think I'll end this for now and talk more of the activities that we have done and maybe even add pictures.

I'm Back

Ok Like I said I'm horrible at keeping up with things like this I'm hoping I'll get better. Someone commented how are April's Fools Dinner went it went great though dd decided it wasn't to her liking. We had Corn Beef with potatoes and onions for desseret we had mint brownies from Harmons.

Hopefully the pictures work first time I've done it and hopefully I'll do better at keeping this blog up.

Back to Work

Our school days usually start on Wednesday because that is when my dh starts his work week. This week I ended up getting sick on Wednesday and I'm very grateful for a wonderful husband that took yesterday (Thursday) off so I could get some much needed sleep. Our daughter enjoyed going to storytime, having a snack on a swing, going to the Aquarium, and walking with her daddy. I'm glad he was able to entertain her for so long. Today I kept it simple at least for me it was simple I let her do some painting she painted a plate (something I wanted to do last week) to make a steering wheel, and a Irish flag. Since I had to make some orange paint dd now knows that red and yellow makes orange. I then let her have some free paint time which she enjoyed. I'm going to talk to her more about Ireland and St. Patricks day though we'll see what she remembers. She is really looking forward to Tuesday when we are going to have our St. Patrick's Day dinner.

The Begining

I have to admit I haven't been the best home schooling mom as of late. I had finally set a schedule for our dd when life through in a wrench. We decided to sell our house and move and well that can throw any ones schedule off. Then moving twice because we had to live in an apartment while our condo was being built after we sold our house. Then when we moved it was Christmas time and well I have to admit I've been lazy. I'm hoping that with the start of this blog I'll have more desire to start doing home schooling if I feel I need to report what we have done.
Our precious daughter is only 3 and she is in love with learning and just seeing how her face lights up when something clicks is the most heart warming thing in the world. I feel that is why I desire to home school because I want to be there when everything clicks. I can read to this little girl like there is no tomorrow and she still wants more. My husband's schedule is changing next month which would be more conducive to home schooling. We'll see how this goes and hope for the best.
